A balanced offensive attack and ball-hawking defense led the Atherton Ravens to their second win of the season over the Southern Trojans last night. The matchup of 1-0 teams was decided before halftime as Atherton raced out to a 45-0 lead at half.

Atherton’s defense caused several fumbles as they backed up last week’s shutout with another one tonight.  Senior West Virginia commit, Zai’Vion Meads, led the defense with consistent pressure up front.  Many plays ended with a flock of Ravens meeting at the ball.  Rob Dennis seemed to be around every play as well.

Atherton’s offensive line opened up holes for junior running backs Davin Jones and Kaden Scott.  They also protected quarterbacks Dearius Smith, Jay Sistrunk, and Bryce Thomas all evening.

The scoring started with a field goal by Ravens kicker Carter Humble followed by 2 rushing touchdowns from Scott.  Atherton has no shortage of playmakers as seniors Jason Briscoe and Aiden Wilson caught touchdown passes while junior Jeremiah Briscoe hauled in one as well.   Quarterback Sistrunk chipped in with a slippery TD scamper to cap the scoring before half.

The Ravens look to go 3-0 as they host Mercer County at home next week while Southern aims to get back on track welcoming Valley to Preston Highway.
