It was a beautiful fall Friday night off Kenwood Drive on Louisville’s south side as the visiting Oldham County Colonels took on the Desales Colts.

As always, week 1 drew a pretty big crowd, and it quickly became the OC show. Desales came out on offense first after a big 40-yard kickoff return by senior Silas Jones, who would be the banner carrier for the Colts, amassing almost 200 all-purpose yards on the night.

Unfortunately, that would be one of the few bright spots for the Colts. Eventually, the drive sputtered out, and the Colonels took over with their offensive firepower, led by quarterback #12 Javy Tucker, running back #34, and a slew of wide receivers (#1, #13, and #11).

Behind the strong arm of Tucker, the Colonels jumped out to a commanding 31-0 halftime lead with TD completions of 9 and 44 yards and a cheeky little 6-yard scramble for another score.

It looked like OC had everything wrapped up with a pretty little bow, but a slow start in the second half and what looked like a rolled ankle or a bad cramp on Tucker made the second half a little more interesting.

The coaching staff for the Colonels seemed a little unsure as the second half started about whether or not to leave the starters in. They were given half of a drive until it was clear Tucker was coming up lame.

The backups played pretty well against the starters for Desales, playing them to a 10-7 second-half score, but eventually, the front six of Oldham County’s defense was just too overwhelming for the Colts.

This one finished up at 38-10 with some mop-up work in the 4th for the Colts. Biggest stars of the night were definitely senior Silas Jones for the Colts and, on the Colonels’ side, Javy Tucker and, I think, his name was Lincoln Weaver (spelling could be wrong), #8 LB/WR for OC.

I have him down for a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and at least 1 batted-down pass while rushing. Outside of that, he was everywhere on defense, racking up at least 10 tackles. Make no mistakes about it, OC definitely has a squad with some dudes!

This will be a team to keep an eye on as they look to heal up before a matchup next Friday hosting the Shelby County Rockets. I can say for certain if fully healthy by September 4th, North Oldham versus Oldham County should be a heck of a game.

Desales will look to rebound next week on the road against Nelson County.
