Mustangs complete the Oldham County sweep with shutout of South

The 22nd all-time meeting between North Oldham and South Oldham was all Mustangs (3-1) in Crestwood Friday night.

Mustang running back Ronin Renton ripped off a 61-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage and it was off to the races from there in North’s 42-0 win over South (1-3).

The North win marked its first in Crestwood since 2014, and gave the Mustangs their first sweep of the county since 2014 as well. It also marked North’s first-ever shutout of South, and was the Mustangs second 42-0 shutout in the past 3 weeks.

North defensive back Andrew Davis and linebacker Ryan Seely intercepted Dragon quarterback Evan Williams twice in the first half, and the Mustangs offense continued to roll as it built a 28-0 lead heading into the half.

Senior quarterback Brodie Pfeiffer hit Conner Nesmith on a 20-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 14-0 after Davis’ interception, and Seely’s pick setup a 10yard scoring run from Pfeiffer. In the waning moments of the first half Pfeiffer bombed a 55-yard touchdown to fellow senior Hudson Hackler to put the game out of reach at 28-0.

After allowing 85 yards in the first half, the Mustangs completely stifled the Dragons in the second half — allowing just 15 total yards and zero plays in Mustang territory after the break.

Pfeiffer ran in another score to put on the running clock, and he capped his 5 touchdown night with another 34-yard scoring toss to Hackler early in the 4th quarter.

Pfeiffer finished the night with 205 passing yards, 26 rushing yards and a career high 5 total TDs (3 pass, 2 rushing).

Renton racked up 128 rushing yards, Hackler had a career best 89 yards with his two scores, and the Mustangs outgained the Dragons 374-100 in the contest. The Mustangs scored touchdowns on each of their final 5 possessions.

Since falling behind early in the first half of Week 1, North has outscored opponents 132-21 and is out-gaining its opponents by over 700 yards in the last 14 quarters.

The South loss drops the Dragons to 1-8 in its last 9 games, and marked their sixth-straight loss at home.

North will ride its three-game winning streak into a home matchup with Seneca next Friday before beginning Class 4A District 3 play.
