Coming off of their first bye week of the season, which I think we can all agree on was WAY too early, the Cardinals faced off against BGSU. Let’s not forget that BGSU has a Heisman Trophy winner in Eddie George as their head coach.
Eddie George told a story as he was being interviewed by some Louisville media members, where the legend Howard Schnellenberger recruited him and wanted him to play linebacker. Needless to say, things faired out fine for ol’ Eddie 🤣.
Kickoff was at noon, so you could rest assured #CardNation was at L&N getting the day going with cold brews and good foods. The first half didn’t quite start off as most would expect, looking sluggish and just like a team coming off a bye week.
But it wasn’t until around the 8:15-8:25 mark when Caullin Lacey would go on a 75-yard scamper to the house for his second punt return of the season. To throw a little extra on top just before the half, Cardinal defenseman D'Angelo Hutchinson snagged a pick in the red zone, preventing the Falcons from scoring.
The second half started off with the Cardinals clinging to a 21-3 lead. Let me tell you folks something else: the Cardinals kickers had themselves a day as well.
Ranvier Cooper converted three in the second half, but let’s not also forget kicker Nick Keller hit a (school record) 57-yarder.
With about 6:45 left to go in the game, Cardinal Braxton Jennings converted a 3-yard run for his first career touchdown. That would end up being the final offensive score of the Cardinals.
Now the defense, as good as they had done during this game and the previous two, allowed a 75-yard score and a 38-yard score in the second half.
But like the old saying goes, a win surely is a win, and the Cardinals would do just that by a score of 40-17.
Caullin Lacey had himself a day totaling 200+ yards, while Miller Moss would go on to throw for 316 yards himself.
The dynamic backfield duo we’ve been accustomed to seeing in Isaac Brown & Duke Watson didn’t really play a lick in today’s game; Isaac Brown was the only person to have a single carry.
That’s where running back KeyJuan Brown rushed for 83 yards on 12 carries, with two touchdowns.
The Cardinals move on to a 3-0 record currently, which they have done respectfully in each of Jeff Brohm’s seasons.
The Cardinals hit the road for the first time this season in their next game; they’ll face the Panthers of Pittsburgh on September 27th at noon.
