Coming off of their embarrassing loss to the Commodores of Vanderbilt, the mark pope lead wildcats were poised to write their wrongs.
The only problem with that was they were coming into Arkansas to face the Calapari-led Razorbacks, in a hostile environment on primetime ESPN television.
Let’s be real here: the first 15-16 mins of the game against their former coach, the fans of BBN were basically watching a different team from a few days ago, then the team that took the court tonight.
First half, Kentucky got up by as many as I think like 15-16 points, that of which caused John Calapari to use 80% of his team’s total timeouts before the end of the first half. But in the dominant first half that Kentucky had, you could tell this team had some fighting them, which is something the majority couldn’t say at all.
The second half was an absolute train wreck for the most part as Kentucky got hit with three technical fouls in just 38 seconds, not long after that, Kentucky got hit with yet another technical foul. You could cut the tension with a knife all the while the place was as hectic as could be.
Then what do you know? Coach Mark Pope himself would get a technical foul called against himself, making it the fourth technical foul called against the Wildcats of Kentucky in a very short period of time.
Tensions were rising and starting to run at an all-time high against the Razorbacks and the former coach in the heartland of Tyson chicken. The Razorbacks would finally take the lead for a brief moment midway through the second half, but ultimately in the end, the Wildcats would prevail and come out victorious.
This here was just as much of a crucial game they needed to win as any up to this point during the tenure of mark pope. During the last seven games, Kentucky has won 6 out of 7, with victories against Tennessee and Arkansas on the road.
They’ve also defeated LSU on the road in a heroic last-second shot by Moreno. Mind you, the games against the Volts and the Tigers they came from behind to win those two by a combined score of 35.
Despite not having JQ, despite not having a true PG with the absence of Lowe, and despite the injury of Williams, Pope and co has been finding ways when the majority of us thought they couldn’t or wouldn’t.
Nine different Wildcats would score, with four different players scoring in double figures, having Otega Oweh lead the way with 24 pts, 8 rebs, and 3 ast.
Cats now have a record of 15-7, with the Sooners of Oklahoma coming to Rupp Arena Wednesday at 9 p.m.
