Atherton defeats C. Hardin 44-0 to start the season.

A stingy Ravens defense and several explosive plays fueled a dominant win for the Atherton Ravens over Central Hardin last night on Dundee Road. It was senior night for the Ravens in front of a good crowd filled with family and friends.
The game was a running clock at halftime as the Ravens jumped out to a lead of 37-0. The Briscoe brothers (Jason and Jeremiah) led the way with 2 touchdowns apiece in a variety of plays on offense and the kicking game.
Sophomore Paxton Miles caught an early touchdown pass after making a player miss, and senior Aiden Wilson scored on a well designed wr screen pass also in the first half. The Ravens had 3 quarterbacks throw a touchdown pass in the first half.
The scoring was started by an early safety caused by the Atherton defense, and Jeremiah Briscoe returned the free kick for a touchdown as the athletic Ravens raced to a 9-0 lead. As expected this early in the season, both teams had several penalties, some negating touchdowns, that should be cleaned up over the length of the season.
The Ravens defense only gave up a few first downs on the way to a shutout. There were several defenders around most tackles.
Atherton has a good mix of seasoned upperclassmen and young talent on both sides of the ball that should make for another strong season under coach White and staff.
On a lighter note…the Atherton parents who have seniors on the team traditionally tailgate and grill food for the players, coaching staff, and fans on senior night. This year the team decided to take leftovers to homeless individuals in the city.
Dozens of people got a meal because of the thoughtful young student athletes who suggested the gesture.
